Hong Kong

Day charters are all the rage in Hong Kong, where available yachts tend to be built by international companies such as Sunseeker, Princess and Azimut-Benetti. Don’t expect to find superyachts here; instead, focus on beautifully built midrange yachts that offer top-notch amenities, comfortable cruising and speed. You can step aboard just after breakfast, spend the afternoon cruising to the beaches of your choice, and be back on the mainland in time for a late dinner at a Michelin-rated restaurant ashore.

Hong Kong has a number of great beaches to choose among each day. Surfers will find fun at Big Wave Bay, where there is at least enough swell to enjoy body boarding. Tai Long Wan is perhaps the most visually impressive of Hong Kong’s beaches, with its wide, white sandy stretch ringed by lush, green, towering mountains. It’s challenging to reach this beach without a yacht, which makes it a favorite spot that is a bit more protected from the crowds.

For true solitude during a day charter in Hong Kong, ask your yacht’s captain to take you to Cheung Sha, a two-mile-long beach that alternates sections of restaurants with totally undeveloped, pristine nature. If you visit on a weekday, the odds are good that you may be all alone to enjoy the scenery.
