The Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of East Africa. Discovered at the beginning of the 16th century by the Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama, the archipelago owes its name to the Frenchman Jean Moreau Séchelles. The Seychelles were considered a French colony from 1756 to 1814, then a British colony until 1976. Since then, it is a kind of independent Republic, member of the Commonwealth and the Francophonie. These islands are very rich in coral reefs and are home to wonderful white sandy beaches and nature reserves. Here you can swim with rare marine animals such as giant turtles. The ideal time to stay here is between June and August, which is the time when rainfall is lowest and temperatures are the most pleasant.
