Paros

Decoration

Sitting right at the centre of the iconic Cyclades Islands, Paros offers everything that draws charterers to the Greek Islands over and over. From whitewashed villages to sparkling turquoise waters and a history stretching back over five millennia, Paros remains a popular yet well-balanced destination. Its roots date back to 3200 BC, and the island built its ancient reputation on Parian marble, prized throughout the classical world. Today, Paros strikes a careful balance between tradition and modern refinement. Its capital, Parikia, welcomes charterers with its bustling waterfront, Frankish Castle, and the 4th-century church of Panagia Ekatontapiliani, one of the most significant Byzantine monuments in Greece. To the north lies the fishing village of Naoussa, often described as the Mykonos of Paros, which houses a 15th-century Venetian fortress, chic boutiques, seafood tavernas, and a lively nightlife around its compact harbour. Further inland, the mountain village of Lefkes offers charterers a quieter, flower-filled contrast to traditional Cycladic architecture. The island’s coastline is also fascinating. Kolymbithres, with its sculpted granite formations creating natural swimming pools, ranks among the most distinctive anchorages in the Cyclades, whilst Golden Beach on the south-east coast is said to be one of Europe’s leading windsurfing destinations. Ideally located west of Naxos and within easy reach of Antiparos, Mykonos, and Santorini, Paros is the perfect stop for an extended Cycladic charter itinerary.

Paros is home to the classic Cycladic climate of hot, dry summers tempered by the seasonal meltemi winds. The most optimal charter window runs from May to October, with stable sea conditions and warm temperatures throughout. The summer months bring peak crowds and stronger winds alongside the liveliest atmosphere. May, June, September, and October offer calmer seas, fewer visitors, and equally reliable sunshine.
