Sporades
Covered in dense pine forests and surrounded by some of the Aegean’s most beautiful waters, the northern Sporades form one of Greece’s most rewarding and scenically stunning charter destinations. Lying off the eastern coast of mainland Greece, the three main islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, and Alonissos in particular offer each a distinctive experience. Skiathos, the most lively of the three, is the ideal starting point for a Sporades yacht charter. Its harbour is just minutes from an international airport and offers more than 60 beaches, many reachable only by boat, including the famous Lalaria, a crescent of white pebbles enclosed by sheer chalk cliffs. To the east is Skopelos, which served as the main location for the 2008 film ‘Mamma Mia!’, which is home to a lovely amphitheatrical port town of terracotta rooftops, over 300 churches, and the iconic clifftop Chapel of Agios Ioannis, where the wedding scene was filmed. Further north-east, Alonissos is the anchor for the National Marine Park of Alonissos Northern Sporades, the largest marine protected area in the Mediterranean and home to monk seals, loggerhead turtles, dolphins, and more than 300 fish species across 22 surrounding islets. Strategically located, the Sporades also act as a natural stepping stone for extended Aegean cruising to the Cyclades or the northern Greek islands.
