Kornati Islands

Decoration

Sprinkled across the deep blue Adriatic like pale stones, the Kornati Islands form one of Croatia’s most prized cruising grounds and a striking destination to explore via charter. Located within a tranquil archipelago in northern Dalmatia between Zadar and Šibenik, Kornati comprises more than 140 islands, islets, and reefs spread across roughly 35 kilometres. A significant part of this area is the Kornati National Park, established in 1980 to protect the region’s dramatic karst landscape, cliffs, and rich marine ecosystem. As a result, the islands remain largely undeveloped with few permanent residents, offering a rare sense of tranquillity, natural beauty, and distinctive geomorphology that appeals to charter guests seeking untouched landscapes. The Kornati Islands are also known for favourable sailing conditions, with short distances between anchorages, sheltered coves and crystal-clear waters ideal for swimming, snorkelling and diving. Rocky shores and secluded bay are ideal for exploration by tender, while larger islands such as Kornat, Žut and Dugi Otok provide safe harbours and scenic viewpoints during day trips. Cultural highlights not to be missed during a Kornati Island yacht charter include the beautiful Byzantine-era Tureta Fortress and the Church of Our Lady of Tarac on Kornat Island. Natural landmarks such as the dramatic “Kornati crowns”, coral reefs, and the salt lake within nearby Telašćica Nature Park further attract nature-loving charterers. During a Kornati yacht charter, guests can also enjoy traditional cuisine at local konobas serving freshly grilled fish, olive oil, and regional wines. Positioned at the heart of the Dalmatian coast, the Kornati Islands also provide a strategic starting point for extended itineraries linking destinations such as Split, Hvar, and the southern Adriatic.

The Kornati Islands are best known for their welcoming Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and rather mild, yet wet winters, boasting more than 2,600 hours of sunshine annually. The best time of year to plan a yacht charter is between May and October, when warm temperatures, calm waters, and long daylight hours provide the most excellent conditions for cruising and water activities. July and August are the peak charter season across Croatia, bringing higher yacht traffic and busier anchorages. The shoulder months of May, June, September, and early October, on the other hand, offer pleasant weather with quieter waters and more relaxed cruising.
